As the demographic structure of the teaching profession progresses over the next 15 years, increasing numbers of teachers and headteachers approach retirement age whilst fewer teachers aspire to headship or are available to replace those leaving leadership positions.
Some schools and LAs are beginning to look as innovative models for retaining Heads and teachers past their retirement age. These include flexible working opportunities offered throughout a teachers working life, part time working structures on a termly or yearly basis as well as weekly or daily, sabbatical arrangements and career breaks, and internship for deputy and assistant heads.
If you are interested in exploring further possibilities for flexible working and developing opportunities with governors and other stakeholders, contact Ian Draper (Tel: 07962 448848) or Jean Hemsley (07956 640196).

All of us have the opportunity to plan for our future, but many teachers seem to leave planning until they reach retirement.
A recent survey conducted by ETC with over 400 teachers found that 80% of them said their knowledge of pensions was poor.
Many teachers want a better work/life balance.
Life career plans involve a combination of job satisfaction, health and financial planning, and consider the extent of working life and phased work/life balances particularly after the age of 50.
If you want to discuss further your life career plan contact Ian Draper (Tel:07962 449949).
